Council Elections

The Society has two branches at present, in Scotland and in Egypt. Fellows visiting these areas are cordially invited to inform the branch secretary who will be pleased to notify them of any current local activities and to offer assistance in establishing local professional contacts.

New Branches

Council wishes to encourage the formation of additional branches in those areas where Fellows can join together to hold scientific meetings and where they feel that a formal association would be of benefit. The following are the outline rules for the formation of branches.

Outline rules for the formation of branches

Name: The branch shall be called the (name) branch of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Objective: The objective of the branch shall be to advance the objectives of the Society, in particular through the holding of scientific meetings in (name of area, country, state, etc.).

Membership: The membership of the branch shall consist of those Fellows of the Society who are resident in (area etc.).

Organization: The branch shall comprise a Secretary (who is a Local Secretary), a Treasurer (who may be the Secretary) and a Meetings Secretary, and such other officers who may be required and agreed by Council. The appointment of branch officers shall be notified to Council by the Secretary.

These officers, together with a number of other Fellows, to be decided by the branch, shall form a Committee.

Operating rules: The branch shall draw up rules suitable to its local situation and submit them to Council for approval. Further advice can be obtained from the Honorary Secretaries.
