Dr Elizabeth George
Dr Elizabeth George is a statistician and principal research fellow working on clinical trials in the area of acutely sick children presenting to hospitals in Africa for the last 15 years. They have worked on award-winning large trials that have challenged the status quo and led to changes in guidelines or put much needed evidence behind guidelines, as well as sparking many debates and discussions around the world. These have included trials looking at fluid resuscitation for paediatric shock, blood transfusion volumes for severe anaemia, antibiotics for severe malaria and bacterial coinfection, fluids for children with gastroenteritis with or without severe malnutrition. They are a lead on subsequent analyses, publications and dissemination projects from these trials, developing analysis plans, and working closely with collaborators. They have also been a trial statistician for smaller trials that have delineated underpinning mechanisms and informed future research. Elizabeth is passionate about conducting high quality clinical trials to answer key questions and provide evidence for guidelines in treatment of children when they present to hospital in Africa.
