Aidan Desjardins

Aidan is an undergraduate microbiology student at Trinity College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. He was first introduced to global health after undertaking a research project investigating strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance. His primary interests are advocacy for planetary health policies, the eradication of NTDs, and the investigation and control of emerging infectious diseases.Ultimately, he hopes to pursue a medical degree and focus on emerging infectious disease preparedness and the investigation of outbreaks.

Recently, he has begun co-hosting a podcast, Get Global- Young Professionals Talk Global Health, where he interviews emerging leaders in the Irish global health community. Along with this, he volunteers as one of his university’s representatives for the Irish Global Health Network (IGHN).

Aidan hopes to engage his peers and members of the general public to advocate for greater awareness of global health issues. He believes that working with RSTMH will help fulfill this goal, as its platform serves as a forum of discussion between experts, practitioners, and other stakeholders from around the world.

Outside of his work, Aidan enjoys fencing and public speaking.
