Dr Sunday Isiyaku

Dr Sunday Isiyaku has been involved in public health and international development with over three decades of experience leading work to eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

Working in partnership with Ministries of Health in Nigeria, he played a major role in expanding the treatment of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Nigeria. This led to one integrated programme for five diseases in seven states across the country. Having participated in many World Health Organisation/Tropical Disease Research projects he has a deep understanding of community-directed interventions and strengthening health systems at community level. He has served as a consultant to the African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control for evaluations of community directed treatment with ivermectin programmes in several African countries.

Sunday holds a PhD in Zoology specializing in Entomology and Parasitology from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, He is currently Executive Director of Reaching the Last Mile for Onchocerciasis and Lymphatic Filariasis in Africa for Sightsavers, before which he spent more than 15 years as Sightsavers Country Director for Nigeria and Ghana. He was one time Chair of NGDO Coalition for NTDs in Nigeria and is a fellow of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria.
