José Rafael de Almeida

José is a researcher in toxinology and venomics. He holds a degree in Biochemistry, and a PhD in Functional and Molecular Biology. He currently works as Associate Professor at Universidad Regional Amazonica Ikiam (Ecuador). His research explores the diversity and functional activity of venom components from medically important species, integrating proteomic, molecular, and translational approaches to better understand venom systems and their implications for tropical medicine, snakebite envenoming, natural product drug discovery, and the development of next-generation antivenoms.
