Karen Brady

RSTMH Trustee

Karen was appointed as an RSTMH Trustee in September 2019 and served until June 2023.

Karen joined Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in 2016 as their first Director of Fundraising, with responsibility for developing and implementing a new fundraising strategy for high net worth individuals, corporates, philanthropic trusts and foundations.

Karen’s team is responsible for the strategic engagement of LSTM’s global network alumni, donors, partners and friends. She plays a lead role in the implementation of an ambitious fundraising and engagement strategy around LSTM’s 125th anniversary in 2023.

She is also the Chief Operating Officer for HiVE (Health Innovation in a Virtual Environment), LSTM’s pioneering virtual incubator, which has been successfully piloted in Ghana in 2019/20 and for which there are ambitious plans to scale in the future.

Karen is currently enrolled as an MBA student at the Alliance Business School at the University of Manchester. She is an alumna of the University of Durham, graduating in 2002 with a degree in Human Sciences and was one of the first cohorts to achieve the Advanced Diploma in Fundraising through the Institute of Fundraising in 2015.

Prior to joining LSTM, Karen spent nine years at the University of Liverpool, initially as Head of Alumni Relations and later becoming Director of Philanthropy & Alumni Relations. She has previously worked in the corporate sector, specialising in event management.
