Steven Lubega

Steven Lubega is a fifth-year medical student at Kampala International University, Uganda, with deep interests in global public health, clinical research, bloodless surgery, and surgical neuro-oncology. As a Millennium Fellow (Class of 2023), he led a high-impact antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) campaign across ten districts in Western Uganda. The project reached over 5.8 million people through school-based outreach, campus engagements, and radio broadcasts, focusing on strengthening community knowledge, attitudes and practices around antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Steven has completed over 60 certified CME courses across a range of global health areas including AMR, One Health, NCDs, neurology, oncology, digital health, grant writing, green digital skills, and employment-first policy. These were delivered by institutions such as OpenWHO, the International Diabetes Federation, American Academy of Pediatrics, Virginia Commonwealth University, Stanford University, University of Tasmania – Wicking, University of British Columbia, and others.

He is also an active member of over 20 global organizations including RSTMH, ESMO, AACR, CNS, SOLDA, ASN, and GSSA. Currently, he is spearheading a university-led One Health initiative addressing AMR. His long-term goal is to integrate surgery, oncology, and public health to develop patient-centred, evidence-based solutions that strengthen health systems globally.
