National Clinical Impact Awards

The application window for the National Clinical Impact Awards (NCIAs) in 2026 is now open. The closing date for entries is 5pm on 20 May 2026.
The National Clinical Impact Awards [NCIAs], previously the National Clinical Excellence Awards are open to NHS consultant doctors, dentists, on an NHS consultant or academic contract and who are registered on the GMC or GDC specialist list.
The awards seek to recognise the unique and specialised role that NHS consultant doctors, dentists, and academic GPs play and the impact of their work on the NHS at a national level.
The awards are not stratified so applicants can apply and gain a higher award without first securing a lower award. The awards aim to recognise and reward innovation in delivery of clinical care which has wider impacts nationally and in improving patient care. The awards are non-pensionable and are normally for a 5-year duration.
Applications cover the following domains:
- Developing and delivering a high-quality service
- Improving the NHS through leadership
- Education, training and people development
- Innovation and research,
- Additional impact
In past years RSTMH has been a National Nominating Organisation (NNO) and able to support eligible members who were applying for national awards by our ACCIA sub-Committee. However, since last year RSTMH is no longer able to carry out this support.
If you are thinking of applying, please do see the information below to find out more about the application process. We wish you the best of luck with it.
How and when to apply?
Applicants can only apply through the NCIA portal. Any applications received after the deadline for submission will not be considered. You cannot submit your application until the employer sign-off element has been completed. Please ensure your employer is aware of your application and allow enough time for this to be done.
Public health specialists wishing to apply will not be able to submit additional contextual information in support of their application, but all applications are scored solely on the evidence provided in the five domains, as measured against the expectations of the job plan and any other remunerated activities.
