The WHO tablet pole facilitates the distribution of praziquantel in large-scale treatment campaigns for the control of schistosomiasis. However, it has been reported that overweight and obese individuals are often underdosed. This month’s Editor’s Choice article by Antonio Montresor and colleagues proposes an adjustment in the number of praziquantel tablets for these patient groups based on their body mass index, which has important policy implications for current and future schistosomiasis programmes.

This issue also includes a review article on dengue and COVID-19 co-infections in the tropics. Original articles in this issue include research on visceral leishmaniasis and HIV coinfection, the value of whole-body MRI, and hantavirus infection in neotropical bats.
