Sarah Marzouk

Digital Communications Manager

Sarah joined RSTMH in September 2017 as Digital Communications Manager.

Prior to joining RSTMH, she worked in the media team at Save the Children UK, before working on community engagement events with the London Development Agency as part of the London 2012 Olympic Legacy project. She then went on to join HelpAge International where she was instrumental in establishing their social media presence, as well as working on two website relaunch projects. During this time, she travelled to the West Bank and Gaza, Kyrgyzstan and South Africa to interview those involved in and benefitting from HelpAge’s projects, as well as training local staff to use digital platforms in their work.

More recently she lived and worked in Amsterdam as a digital communications freelancer, before returning to London to Friends of the Earth where she was the editor of their supporter magazines.

In her role at RSTMH, she will focus on increasing RSTMH’s reach and engagement through social media, the website and newsletters, as well as maximising the impact of events and journals.

World Food Day: Migration, food security, rural development

In 2015, there were 244 million international migrants, 40% more than in 2000. More people have been forced to flee their homes than at any time since the Second World War due to conflict and instability. In addition to these factors forcing people to leave their homes are hunger, poverty and an increase in extreme weather events linked to climate change.

Asia Malaria Images: a photography exhibition

Malaria in the Asia-Pacific is virtually invisible. Those living with the disease often reside in remote rural settings, often unseen by the people living in the enormous and gleaming metropolises of the region. The Malaria Asian Images project and exhibition aims to bring visibility to the people and their malaria burden via artistic photography of them and their environment.

MSF Scientific Days: sharing humanitarian research with global health community

We were very proud to be supporting MSF's Scientific Days, which took place on 24 and 25 May at the Royal Society of Medicine in London, for a fourth year.

The aim of the annual meeting is to share humanitarian research and innovation with the global healthcare community.

Tropical Medicine 100 years on from Sir Patrick Manson by Professor Alan Fenwick OBE

We were delighted that Professor Alan Fenwick OBE delivered the Christmas Manson lecture at our Research in Progress meeting on the 14th December last year. The topic of his lecture was ‘Tropical Medicine 100 years on from Sir Patrick Manson’ and he led us through a wonderful account of the achievements and success of the last 100 years, with some food for thought about the remaining challenges.
